Let's Talk Hiring
Employment technologies was actually a part of our hiring process before I stepped into my current role, and I was actually hired using employment technologies assessments. But when I took on this role, one of our biggest challenges was turnover, especially for team members who were within their first year of employment. We were investing countless hours hiring and training these new employees only to find out that some of them just could not be successful in the position long term. So. So it felt like we were constantly hiring and starting the training process all over again. We needed to find a better way to identify candidates who were truly prepared for the demands of this job.
As a public office serving an elected official. One of our biggest concerns was ensuring that any pre employment assessments we used were valid, fair, and provided an equal opportunity for all of our applicants. So Employment Technologies was great about addressing these concerns and providing the information that we needed to feel confident in the assessments. Our other question was simply how much of a difference is this really going to make? And that's something that we couldn't answer until we experienced it for ourselves. We needed to see firsthand whether the assessment results translated into better hiring decisions and more successful team members.
We've seen some really exciting improvements. For the first time in seven years, we've filled nearly every position in our department. We've also reduced the average time new hires spend in training from five and a half months down to just three and a half months. And one thing we've learned along the way is how valuable the assessment results can be. We noticed that our most successful employees consistently scored above a 75 on the email composition assessment. So last year we raised our minimum passing score from 70 to 75. While that did narrow our applicant pool, it helped us focus our time and resources on candidates who demonstrated the skills that we were looking for. Employment technologies has become a valuable part of helping us make more informed hiring decisions.
Every year, we get together with our colleagues from across the state. And one of the challenges I consistently hear about is finding and keeping good employees. I know what that struggle looks like. Without employment technologies, I think we'd still be in a constant cycle of hiring and training, bringing in new groups of employees every couple of months. We invest nearly 250 hours into training each new hire, and that's a tremendous investment of time and resources, especially when someone ultimately isn't successful. So having assessments that help us identify candidates with the skills needed to succeed allows us to be much more intentional about who we are bringing onto our team.
Employment Technologies helps us take the guesswork out of hiring by giving us a better understanding of an applicant's skills before we invest the time and resources into training them.
Hi, my name is Terence Cheatham Chief Human Resource officer here with Sequium Asset Solutions and years ago we were experiencing a problem with high turnover and searching for solutions. That search put us in a position to have conversations with employment technologies and we found the right company. Their product and their group of assessments really has helped us to determine the likelihood of a candidate staying in our role no matter what their previous background was and throughout the years our turnover has decreased year over year over year. As a data driven technologically advanced company we are very happy to bump into an organization like etc to partner with because they thought the same way that we thought and we're very pleased to say that the products that they've offered us have tremendously helped us to decrease turnover. They've helped us to save time and above all of that I really love the way they treat their customers. Customer satisfaction is very important to employment technologies and has helped us to build on our relationship.
As a company, we began this process hesitant about integration, implementation and price, but I'm happy to say that ETC satisfied all of our needs. The pricing is in line with what our budget could handle, the product was easy to integrate into our current ats, and when it came to the simulations, though we did not fully understand them in the beginning, we were educated very well, shown lots of products, and were eased into our decision.
Since beginning this relationship with ET, our turnover rate has decreased approximately 20 to 23%, and the decision to utilize data as opposed to humans when it comes to deciding or predicting if a new hire is going to stay in this role has helped. Data allows us to be able to look at the results of the assessment and make a decision compared to hearing an emotional decision from one of our line managers. In addition to that, the cost of getting this improvement impacted our bottom line in a positive way. Yes, it was an expense, but on the other end, as most financial individuals will know, it increased the revenue by keeping our employees longer.
If we had not started our relationship with employment technologies, I think our turnover rate would have remained in the high position it was if not increased more over the last few years. In addition to that, if we allowed or continued to allow our managers to make emotional predictions about the likelihood of a new hire staying with us, we would not be in a good position. Utilizing the data and technology that ET has put into their product has saved us a lot when it comes to time, has helped us to decrease our turnover, and as I stated before, has impacted our bottom line in a positive way.
If I was asked to provide one sentence that describes etc very well, I would say that they are a data driven, top tier predictor of success.
Hi, I'm Jennifer Ragan, Director of Talent Acquisition at Apple Federal Credit Union. Before we were using Employment Talent Technologies. I'm going to be honest with you, I really don't know what happened at Apple as I've been here four and a half years and we've always had it. I would believe, if I had to, that we were uncertain of what our candidates could do prior to the pre screening session for our branches. In our call center, which we use the assessment for, we we were probably a little unable to fully assess them and see if they're even worth the screen. So Employment Technology stepped in and provided us with the tools in order to assess people prior to doing a screen and interview with them and then use those tools to evaluate them against others.
I honestly have not had many doubts about the process or the employment technology platform. It's been very good to us for the four and a half years I've been here. I will say I think the price is very fair, so no concern there. We use it on a regular basis for our assessments of call center and branch positions at Apple, and I feel that we get a good product from it and good results each and every time.
Apple changed a few things or I changed a few things when I first came to the company four and a half years ago. Originally we were doing video assessments of our applicants and sharing those videos with the managers before they actually met them. We discontinued that process quickly after I got here because I believed it showed a bias or could show a bias in candidates prior to even meeting them or getting them in for an interview. We we changed that process and quickly started just doing the assessment part about accounting change, how to deal with customers, multitasking and prioritizing, which are key things for us in the organization. That worked very well for us. We are still able to evaluate people on a regular basis properly, and have been doing that since we got here. I got here.
I think if we are, if we did not work with employment technology, we wouldn't get a good assessment of people and how their skills are in regards to the assessments that we do and the things that we're looking for. We wouldn't be able to properly evaluate them to see if they're a fit for the organization's role and then bring them in for an interview to see if they're a fit for the culture and the environment as well. So we've been very satisfied with the product we have and working with employment technologies, they are always very responsive. Ginger Jane, Everyone is very good at getting in touch with us if we need them and changing up assessments as needed based on our different positions that we may want to test for.
Let's see. One sentence to sum up the product. I would say that it's very reliable and accurate.
Prior to employment technologies, we actually did not have a platform in place for our candidates in the pre screening process. And we were seeing a lot of turnover rates within our teller line. Those are our frontline workers and that is where we see the highest turnover rate. We were looking for a way to minimize that. And so with the assessments, we were looking for a way to find the best qualified candidate for that position.
So with the platform, my biggest concern was how someone that had never been a teller before would do on the assessment, simply because some of the lingo that is used in the assessment for the tellers, for an example, a dated check, someone that is totally green to the teller world, to financial institutions, may not know what that means. So I was a little worried how they would do. However, once we got into the assessment, and we've been using employment technologies for a few years now, and so what we see is we're actually seeing a lot of people that have never been tellers before do quite well on the assessment. And then you do have some that have teller experience that don't do so well. So that kind of caught me off guard.
So since utilizing employment technologies, we have been able to assess candidates before they go into a role. And that gives us an idea of how they measure as far as, like, their skills for the certain position. And that has helped us tremendously make decisions on what candidate would be good for what specific role. In the credit union, we do have different positions that we have available for candidates, and so if, if we think that they might not be good for one position, we may shift them in the direction of another position that meets more of their assessment results.
So since using employment technologies, I would say that it has been an asset to our pre screening process. In addition to the questions that we ask during in person interviews, we're also able to get an insight on their skills for the position that we are hiring for. And so that has helped us tremendously in our hiring process.
So with employment technologies, the teller simulations are very alike. How the teller line is ran on a daily basis. So I do like that aspect. It's very real life. And so that's a good opportunity to kind of see where the candidate scores in those certain areas. In addition to that, I would say employment technology offers great customer service. There is a couple ladies that we have worked with throughout the years that are phenomenal. If you have an issue, technical issue, question, there is no, no wait time. They are very quick to respond. We've never had to wait more than a day or so for help if we needed it, or had a general question. And I think the personable side of that and the customer service is awesome.
